I was sitting in a class on the UG’s Turkeyen Campus one hot steamy afternoon when one student inquired if she may rid herself of her work jacket and made mention of her fine strapped top which she bore under that said jacket, the lecturer’s response was “I guess you can do that since you can’t dress any worse than this young lady in front of me”.
Right there and then I guided my eyes to my 3 o’clock direction and noticed what the ‘worse dressed’ young lady was wearing. “Lord help my Virgin eyes”, was my thought, as she was clad in an even –finer- strapped purple top which hugged her tighter that a mother’s love.
Her plunging neck line sent my eyes diving toward her bosoms. “Oh come on, don’t judge me I’m only human”. Moreover it was a burden to listen to the lecture after that experience and I’m sure the guys could have attested to that.
What surprised me further was the look of disgust she received from females of the class and even with those nasty glares and snide remarks; she sat there smiling ever so sweetly. Even if you were concentrating on the lecture, it was hard to sit and not notice the distraction of the above incident or an occasional @$$ crack peering out of a low rise jeans.
I guess one is left to ponder; what is really fashion?
According to the Concise Oxford English Dictionary (11th Edn.), Fashion is defined as ‘a currently popular style, behavior or clothing; the production and marketing of new styles and cosmetics’.
Could it be that fashion gurus of the University’s population have perhaps dusted the cobwebs and actually turned a page or two? I think not. For I’m sure that anyone who read this would agree and would have noticed, every day, the dress parade on the catwalk, in classes, or in any of the snackettes across the campus.
Furthermore it is difficult to make people understand that this institution has set dress codes and the ones who are supposed to adhere to such, won’t take the time to let their friends know where they have gone wrong. It seems as though Guyanese are bent on breaking every rule, well especially that rule, so I’m left to say; “only in Guyana”.
It is my opinion that the ‘Dress Parade’ should be left for the clubs, parties and other outings but I guess this is not Burger King: I can’t always have it my way.

So what, now we don't have enough to do on campus...what with being rained on in GWLT and the classrooms, the generally nasty attitude of staff at the library, the lack of proper lighting in the classrooms....need I go on?
ReplyDeleteMay I suggest to the writer that he/she/it should just make sure they dress properly and leave others to their own conscience? UG hard enough man, whatever we have to do to feel comfortable we should be able to do !!!
I second this post by Anonymous. Besides being the prevailing style or custom....fashion is also a means through which some people express themselves. are we now stifling student expression? How can we be judgmental of people who seem to put extreme effort into looking their best? should that be each individual responsibility? isn't "loooking well" indicative of "being well put together"
ReplyDeleteSome of us (yes, I said us, since I, too have been occasionally accused of 'dressing up for ug') look good without effort (yes, i'm tooting my own horn). Its just what makes you feel comfortable. I know I'd be most uncomfortable in worn out jeans and a dingy t-shirt but that may be someone else's comfort zone. If that girl feels sooooo hot she needs to wear a 'finer strapped purple top' then so be it. UG does have a dress code. It says 'dress modestly'. Who defines what is modest? the individual, isnt that so?!
So how about we just deal with the issues ay? Leave such personal things as dressing up to the individual. If the Admin got a problem with it why don't they do like GTI and CPCE and have a uniform?
Just my suggestion. Just my two cents.
Now nobody aint tryin to tell ya'll dat we got a problem with de clothes!! all we sehin is dat ya'll got to tek ya'll time cause ya'll women might give a brother a heart attack!! some ah ya'll very "blessed" and others are not so fortunate...so oww man... lend out some bust and back nah!! GOSH!! ya'll so selfish...LMAO

Fuk off nevaseecomfuhsee..
Idk what the writer of this post bitching bout..
i share all sentiments....but is it a fashion statement to let ur @$$ crack show man?
ReplyDelete@stolid charisma. I'm happy you so narrowed down my gender. Yes I am a woman, at least last I checked (though some may beg to differ!). Apparently I said something that was directed to you and you are now offended. my apologies but I find you so funny. hahaha, but i'm glad people like you join this blog...it provides a p.o.v from the other end of the stick. ReplyDeleteU go Irinia! There are no dress at the university so i dunno wht bull crap guardie is saying. I couldnt care less abt the clothin people wear...its their choice and as for me i like my lawless clothing cuz ya know what? guyana is a tropical country with a big yellow thing in the sky not no arctic ass place so tht we gotta dress like a dam eskimo...i gon wear meh strapless an i want see which lecturer gon tell me anything
ReplyDeleteDress is a persoal choice but it all boils down to time and place ppl. There r other clothing that u can wear to keep cool other than fine straps and with the sun being hott u still get sun burns. Now, gettin to the low rise jeans I didt know that ur crack is usually hott too............. maybe its the hair so get Shavin hun. And coming to think of it, its probably the smell of all the CRACKS being open that contributes to the odour we get around the place...........Thank God My Kids finish since 1995 UG
ReplyDelete*grabs neverseecomefuksee collar* *shakes her violently..
ReplyDeleteI *SLAP* *NEVERSEECOMEFUHSEE's torso voilently sways to left* Don't give a *shakes neverseecomefuhsee then pulls her very close and looks deep in her scared eyes* fuck about spelling.. *pushes neverseecomefuhsee back at arms length and slaps her head off....... literally*
lolllll. i seriously agree with granny d. its not necessary to air out the butt crack. i see no problem wit all the fine strap tops neither the strapless.... yes its a tropical country n the sun seems to be bakin us these days but the top doesnt have to reveal shoulders n clevage n belly all at once. stolid charisma is a very angry woman. betta not let her kno who neverseecomefuhsee is. damn
ReplyDeleteBITCHES BITCHES....GET YA BITCHES...IRINIA ON SALE...SILLY LITTLE GIRL. GO READ A BOOK! WEAR COTTON...AEROPOSTALE!
ReplyDeleteBITCHES BITCHES...GET YA BITCHES!
stolidcharisma is a woman-hating man....or a man-loving man, lololol. i'd luvvv to meet you :) Let's see how the shaking and slapping comes along :)
ReplyDeleteDont worry anon a few yrs down the line atleast u'll have summin to remember them by.So it'll go like this "Hey remember me Irinia'" "Irinia Who" and she turns slowly around ." OH..........U the crack, that breezes ur crack, to show a crack a hairy stink crack...........
ReplyDeleteGranny speaks for the last time
@ Irinia - u sound rather loose for a young woman. i believe this article was written just for u... and i know who u r and i do think that u r unappropriately attired for UG. OK, so Dr. Mohammed said its ok? but do u see her dressing loosely? if she does, then fine... but if she is proper, then shouldnt u do as she does, not as she says??? hhhmmmmmm.... ur ignorance is bountiful i presume... Go wallow in it then...
ReplyDeletei dont think irinia or whtevr her name was/is was implying tht she is loose. u ppl are such haters. i bet half the ppl tht comment on this blog have nothing to do all day. and granny d, go get a life man. u kids finish UG since 95 and u probably never ever went to UG so why the heck u on a UG blog?
ReplyDeleteanyways, while i am here i would like to raise the point tht no one else has: why has no one mentioned the way some guys walk around campus with their "pants on the ground"? is tht cool? how come no one ever addressed tht point?
u ppl are mostly biased. but i support the blog though, its just the comments tht piss me off.
I would love to meet you too nevaseecomefuhsee.. You might be cute!
ReplyDeleteAnd damn last anon guy.. cause it's your comments that piss erryone here off!
